Breaks in the building envelope

Although this is not a major issue, there is the potential for a few problems. Moisture or pest intrusion is a possibility along with the loss of energy. Hot air always migrates to cooler air because hot air is lighter and less dense than cooler air. In our northern climate where its cold in the winter, heat can escape from within the home; and when its hot/humid in the summer months, moisture, pests, and warm air can find their way through openings into the home. Either way, any breaks in the building envelope will create a less energy efficient home. This is easily resolved by caulking around openings in the building envelope. Discuss with a specialist in the paint department of your local home improvement store which caulking would be best for your project.
